Kansas Wheat Harvest Report, July 7

This is day 13 of the Kansas Wheat Harvest Reports, brought to you by the Kansas City Board of Trade, DeBruce Grain, the Kansas Grain & Feed Association and Kansas Wheat.

Following the Independence Day weekend, farmers in the northern part of the state have their combines rolling again after rain showers hampered some efforts over the weekend.

Rich Sholtz, General Manager of Alida Pearl Coop in Chapman says harvest in his area is all but finished. Average yields in the area were around 58 bushels per acre, with some having as high as 65 bushels per acre. Protein was mostly in the 10.8-11 range, with test weights averaging about 59.5.

Lincoln Hillyer of Ag Partners Coop in Hiawatha reports that harvest progress in Brown County is about 90% complete. Yields have been averaging 60 bushels per acre, with some farmers reporting as high as 70 an acre. Protein has averaged about 11.

According to Renee Miles at the Rangeland Cooperatives in Phillipsburg, harvest is between 65-70% complete in the area. Thus far, protein levels are ranging from 10-11.5. Yields in the area have averaged out to about 53 bushels per acre. Mills expects harvest will continue another full week before most farmers are finished.

Finally, at Tribune Grain LLC, Dan Hild reports that harvest in the area is winding down to a close. Hild estimates that 95% of the wheat in Greely County has been harvested, with test weights averaging about 61. Yields in the area have been disappointing, mostly averaging about 30 bushels per acre. Protein levels have varied greatly, but Hild estimates the average to be about 11.5.
