Transportation
The KAWG supports the development of a statewide freight plan that
would assess the needs for highway, rail, aviation and other
transportation modes and study the current and projected flow of
commodities. We also support the development of a statewide Freight
Advisory Council that would include state and local government and
private sector freight partners. This council would communicate with
stakeholders in providing for the mobility and safety of Kansas
citizens and their industries. (August, 2007)
The KAWG urges the federal Surface Transportation Board to declare a moratorium on all rural rail abandonment in Kansas until the State of Kansas and local communities have an opportunity to develop a rural transportation policy and determine the feasibility of a port authority(s) to purchase abandoned and existing rail operations. (November, 1998)
The KAWG supports a comprehensive, affordable, reliable and efficient transportation system that includes rail, truck, barge and ocean-going vessels. (November, 2005)
The KAWG supports public and/or private upgrading of rail transportation lines in Kansas. (November, 2006)
