Wheat: The Answer to Indoor Winter Fun for Kids
Posted Jan 6, 2011 at 01:45pm by Bill SpiegelWhen it's cold outside and the kids are tired of bundling up, how about a little home-made fun for inside? Better yet, how about using some wheat products up at the same time?
Until I began working at Kansas Wheat, I had no idea that wheat is a main ingredient in playdough (brand name, Play-Doh, from Crayola). And the Internet is awash with recipes for the sticky stuff. Here are a few:
Our babysitter used a recipe from the King Arthur Flour Anniversary cookbook, and my 4-year-old twin boys loved making it. It's a great recipe, as are all the recipes from our friends at King Arthur.

Incidentally, if you find yourself without food coloring, as babysitter Whitney did at our house, you can use Kool-Aid in a pinch. She simply heated up some red drink and oila - pink play-dough.
She reports that our kids spent two hours making and playing with the stuff, and almost forgot to have lunch. Have fun!
